No! A lot of my students don't have their own drum set in the beginning. That means you will need to improvise at the start: cooking pots, pens, your legs and feet, or even your desk. A lot of people start playing this way. It is not needed to have a drum set to understand the basics of rhythm and how to play. Check out this and you will know what i mean. But once the armrest on your sofa is broken or you have bruises all over your thighs… it might be time to buy a drum set!
