"When is a good age to start learning to play the drums…?"

Patience and practise together - so that also the youngest
have always a fun time learning.
There are no limitations on when to start learning the drums. I have students in all age groups, from 5-60+ years old. With the youngsters, there is a little more to consider..
After children are enrolled in school, between the ages of 5-7, drum lessons are possible without any limitations. The advantage to begin at this age is that kids have already started to develop a learning routine in school. They are more able to focus for a longer time.
Of course, if they aren’t enrolled in school yet, that won’t stop us from learning the basics and having fun! With younger preschoolers, the main focus will be learning how to learn. Since younger kids have a harder time sitting still and having a high motivation to learn, it can sometimes be a challenge for me and the parents. My lessons with that age group are focused mainly on practicing, learning together, and repeating new things. During these lessons, I ask that the parents are involved. Parents will need to operate the computer and learn the new teaching material so that you can help the child practice in between lessons. That may demand a lot of patience sometimes from the parents side but be sure that I will be as patient from my teachers perspective.
